Specifically, it acts as a safeguard against localized shading or malfunctioning components within the array that could otherwise disrupt power generation.

When such issues arise, a forward bias is established across the bypass diode, enabling it to conduct electricity. This allows the working current of the series-connected components to circumvent the problematic element, flowing through the diode instead.

As a result, the overall power generation of the system remains largely unaffected by isolated faults. Simultaneously, the diode provides an extra layer of protection, preventing the bypassed component from experiencing damaging high forward bias conditions.”
